4 Tips to Keep Your Garage Cool This Summer

Keeping a garage a comfortable temperature in the summer can make that time more pleasant. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Insulate

Insulation is the key to controlling indoor climates. Without insulation, climate control is almost impossible. Unfortunately, many garages are uninsulated.

Work with an insulation contractor to ensure that the job is done right. Although insulation is not difficult to install, it’s important to do it right. Should you accidentally cover the vents or airways, condensation could become a problem. Eventually, this could lead to mold.

Insulate your garage door as well as your walls. Garage door insulation is sold in foam strips that can be easily packed against the inside of the door. If you’re replacing your garage door sometime soon, talk to your garage door contractor about installing a Thermacore model. Thermacore doors are made from steel with a polyurethane core to prevent heat transfer when temperatures outside are extreme.

2. Weatherstrip

Garage doors are designed to slide up and down along a track. To avoid friction with the garage wall, there is a slight gap between the door and the door frame. Unfortunately, this gap allows air to flow between the garage exterior and interior. Weatherstripping can prevent this air exchange.

To install weatherstripping, contact a garage door contractor, or complete it as a DIY project. Garage door weatherstripping is a flexible strip that can be nailed around the perimeter of the garage door frame. This strip blocks the air and prevents hot summer air from entering the garage.

3. Install Climate Control

Many homeowners aren’t quite ready to install air conditioning in their garage, but if you’re looking for a less expensive option, a dehumidifier and fan can go a long way.

Assuming your garage is a relatively small space, you may also buy a portable air conditioner. Before making your purchase, check the electrical service in the garage to ensure that your garage gets enough power to support this kind of appliance.

4. Paint with Light Colors

Dark colors absorb heat. If your garage and garage door are painted a dark color, this can heat the space inside. Repainting your garage can keep the exterior and interior cool when the sun beats down.

Friendly customer service. Bought a hard to find remote for an old garage door opener. Opener has 3 buttons so I can program both doors to it. Easy to find location right off 29th St.

I was given a very fair quote. A week later a tech came and installed. Then came back to install lock. Tech was very professional and polite. Spen time with me making adjustments to my liking. I totally recommend Overhead door to my fellow Okies.

Overhead Door did a great job. They got me on the schedule the next day and fixed my spring in 30 minutes or less. Joe was great, professional, and courteous. Awesome service, and he didn't tell me I needed extra materials like the previous garage door people that quoted me $575. Overhead Door told me a price over the phone and it didn't change. I'd recommend them every time.

Pleased with their services. Coil spring broke and door stopped working. Spoke to Ron, and less than 24 hrs later the technician had us up n running again. These guys did exactly what they promised to do, with no nonsense. I like that.
